Bachelor Chow Series - Mondays in June
Bachelors (& Bachelorettes): Can you cook? Would you like to save hundreds of dollars in food costs without living on ramen noodles and mac-n-cheese? Try any of these easy classes and you will be one up on the game! Taught by Regina Murphy, Food Editor for The Emporia Gazette.
Bachelor Chow 101: Boiling water and what you can do with it. June 8, 6-7 PM, FHTC
Many boxed meals can be prepared by first boiling water, but did you know you can prepare fresh foods, grains and meats the same way? It’s so easy. Learn five different dishes you can make, and taste the results!
Bachelor Chow 102: Chopping things with knives. June 15, 6-7 PM, FHTC
Do you cut a carrot the same way you cut a tomato? Can you slice, chop, dice, mince and julienne--all without taking off a fingertip? Learn some basic moves, and which moves are best for different shapes and textures of foods! Bring your favorite kitchen knife, and get a look at the standard blades. Take home your chopped foods to make a stew.
Bachelor Chow 103: Spices and spice combinations. June 22, 6-7 PM, FHTC
You’ve got your salt and your pepper, but what about cayenne? cumin? celery salt? ginger? Taste a variety of spices you can get in any store, and taste several different combinations that can used to season your cooking, from pastas to barbecue rubs!
Bachelor Chow 104: The versatility of eggs. June 29, 6-7 PM, FHTC
If you can boil water or fry bacon, you can do amazing things with eggs. Not just for breakfast anymore, you will learn how to make an omelet, a frittata and a souffle. Taste your dishes as you go!
