Elderberries Empty Elderberries

Post  Shep Sun Aug 09, 2009 7:55 am

The elderberries along the edges of fields and woods are now ready to harvest. Elderberry jam, elderberry/grape jelly, elderberry juice, and more are valuable products with great taste. Elderberry has been thoroughly studied and its medicinal value is well known and effective as a treatment for colds, flu, bronchitis, and upper respiratory infections. It is also being researched in Israel where it is being used as an effective immune system stimulant against many diseases.

There are a growing number of Kansas and Missouri farms where elderberries are being planted in fields for commercial profit, much like blueberries or blackberries. See Wylde Wood Cellars here in Kansas: http://www.elderberry.net/
